Part Time Travel Physician/M.D. or D.O.

OSS is currently seeking a qualified and experienced M.D. or D.O. to fill a position within the National Science Foundation (NSF) Office of Polar Programs (OPP). The best candidate has at least six years of experience as a physician within a military treatment facility (MTF), and has multiple levels of experience working on public health protocols, policies, and development readiness. The physician will be a member of the Safety and Occupational Health team. This is a front-office position falling directly under the Director Office of Polar Programs. This rigorous position involves serving in austere environments, meeting physical endurance qualifications and presenting findings in both a professional and casual manner as required. This is a considered a part time position (up to 600 hours/year) with travel reimbursed.

Requirements:
License: Current and unrestricted MD or DO license to practice medicine in any U.S. State.
Physical Qualification: The NSF OPP work environments are extreme and can involve riding on military aircraft (C130s and C17s), helicopters, research vessels/ships on rough seas, and of course in extreme cold weather. The NSF OPP will provide extreme cold weather gear to include boots (minus underwear and socks). Due to this, NSF OPP requires that all personnel traveling to research stations in the Antarctic and Arctic program pass a medical PQ (Physical Qualification) process.
Experience: The ideal candidate meets the following criteria:
Experienced in creating public health protocols, such as safe travel and infectious disease prevention.
Experience with contact tracing.
Experience reviewing and integrating foreign policies.
Experience developing, revising, and implementing policy for deployment readiness.
Experience developing, revising, and implementing policy for infectious diseases.
Experience assessing deployment readiness for austere environments.
Experienced establishing criteria for deployment readiness.
Experience providing medical recommendations and/or support for medical emergencies.
Experienced with evidence-based medicine and critical appraisal techniques.
Experienced developing and presenting medical content to large groups of non-medical individuals.
Experience providing medical and subject matter expertise in areas of public health including mastery of the relevant scientific and clinical literature.
Experienced being a panelist/participant of question and answer sessions involving non-medical individuals.
